EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team ended a three-match slide with a convincing 5-1 non-conference victory over the University of Illinois-Springfield Sunday at the USI Tennis Courts.

Senior Katie Jo Clagg clinched the victory with a straight-set win at number three singles and teamed up with junior Michelle Girgenti for an 8-4 triumph at number one doubles. Girgenti also had a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win at number one singles.

The Screaming Eagles took a commanding 3-0 lead with three wins in doubles action. Sophomore Logan Ackerman and freshman Lindsey White had an 8-5 win at number two doubles, while senior Gretchen Cantwell and freshman Ellena Stumpf teamed for an 8-2 win at number three doubles.

Cantwell suffered the only defeat of the afternoon for the Eagles as she lost in three sets at number two singles. The two teams did not play 4-6 singles due to weather.

USI returns to action Saturday when it takes on West Virginia Wesleyan College at 3:30 p.m. (CDT) in Charleston, West Virginia.
