MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team went to 0-2 on its spring trip after dropping an 8-1 decision to 22nd-ranked Florida Institute of Technology Wednesday in Melbourne, Florida. USI falls to 4-4 overall, while Florida Tech rises to to 11-5.
The Panthers started the match by sweeping through the doubles matches to lead 3-0. Florida Tech went on to seal the match by winning five of six in singles. USI sophomore Logan Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Indiana) recorded USI's only victory, winning a tie-breaker match at number six singles.
USI conclude their spring trip with a scrimmage at Florida Community College at Jacksonville Thursday at 11 a.m. (CST). The Eagles return to Evansville to open the GLVC schedule Sunday when they host the University of Illinois-Springfield at the USI Tennis Courts. Match time Sunday is Noon.
