USI moves to 6-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team won five of six singles matches to post a 6-3 win over McKendree College Friday evening at Advantage Courts & Fitness in Evansville, Indiana. USI goes to 6-0 overall in 2009-10.

The Screaming Eagles took an early lead when junior Joseph Boesing and sophomore Diego Gimenez won at number one doubles, 8-2. The Bearcats bounced back to take a 2-1 lead after doubles play with two straight wins at number two and three doubles.

USI evened the match at 2-2 when Gimenez won a tie-breaker at number one singles. Gimenez took the first singles match by winning a 7-3 tie-breaker in the first set, but won a pro-set tiebreaker to win the match after losing a second set tie-breaker 8-6.

Gimenez's gave USI the momentum to win four of the remaining five singles matches. Freshman Juan Quiroz and Joseph Boesing followed Gimenez by posting straight sets wins at number two and three singles. The Eagles clinched the victory when freshman Ben Boesing and sophomore Robert Nieters won in straight sets at number five and six singles after losing the number four singles match.

The spring schedule resumes for the Eagles Saturday when they play at Morehead State University at 4 p.m. (CST).
