EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team won a 5-4 battle with Western Kentucky University Friday evening at Advantage Court & Fitness. USI raised its record to 3-1 overall, while WKU falls to 1-1.
The Screaming Eagles had the early advantage in the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore
Logan Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) and freshman
Lindsey White (Batesville, Indiana) got USI on the scoreboard with an 8-2 win at number two doubles, while senior
Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman
Ellena Stumpf (Attendorn, Germany) gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead with a 9-8 tiebreaker win at number three.
The Hilltoppers regained the lead 4-2 with three straight wins to start singles action. The Eagles regained the momentum in the final three singles matches to win the match, 5-4. White, Stumpf, and Ackerman posted straight set wins in number four, five, and six singles to clinch the victory.
USI returns to action February 20 when it hosts Bellarmine University for a non-conference match at Advantage Court & Fitness. Match time is 6 p.m.
