Evansville, IN-The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team was victorious in their home opener against Indiana University-Southeast taking six of nine matches from the visiting Grenadiers Saturday morning at the USI Tennis Courts.
The Screaming Eagles started out strong, taking advantage with two doubles victories. Senior Gretchen Cantwell and freshman Ellena Stumpf put USI on the scoreboard with an 8-5 win at number two, while freshman Lindsey White and sophomore Logan Ackerman followed up with an 8-5 victory at number three.
The Eagles maintained the momentum in the singles competition, taking four of six matches to win the match 6-3. Cantwell posted her second victory of the day with a straight set victory at number two singles. White and Ackerman closed out the match for USI at numbers five and six, respectively, with straight set wins.
Sophomore Michelle Girgenti posted the Eagles fourth victory in singles with a straight set win at number one.
The Eagles will stay home for their next match as Bellarmine University visits the University of Southern Indiana tennis courts on October 10 at 4:00.
