USI women's tennis falls 6-3 to UMSL
Missouri- St. Louis 6, Southern Indiana 3
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friday afternoon at the USI Tennis Courts. USI falls to 3-10 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC, while UMSL goes to 3-7, 1-4 GLVC.
The Tritons got an early lead on the Screaming Eagles by winning two of three doubles matches. USI juniors Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) and Katie Jo Clagg (Terre Haute, Indiana) picked up the doubles wins for the Eagles by winning 9-8 in a tie-breaker.Â
UMSL started singles play by taking the matches at number one, two, and three. USI got its first singles win at number four when Clagg won in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0, while sophomore Jennie LaBonte (Indianapolis, Indiana) followed with a straight-set win, 6-1 and 6-4, at number five. The Tritons finished off the Eagles with a win at number six singles.
The Eagles concluded a six-match homestand when they host Quincy University Saturday at 10 a.m. at the USI Tennis Courts.
