LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team dropped four of six singles matches as it fell to Bellarmine University, 5-4, in its GLVC opener Saturday.
USI (2-3, 0-1 GLVC) grabbed a 2-1 lead with wins at number one and two doubles, but a loss at number three doubles coupled with straight-set losses at number three, four, five, and six singles allowed the host Knights to pull out the victory.
Freshman Diego Gimenez (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and sophomore Joseph Boesing (Floyd Knobs, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles. The two teamed up for an 8-4 win at number one doubles, while each recorded three-set victories at number one and two singles, respectively.
USI opens its home schedule Sunday when it hosts Western Kentucky University in a men's and women's doubleheader beginning at noon.
