Men’s soccer wraps up season on the road

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team wraps up the 2009 campaign on the road this weekend with a pair of GLVC games. USI is set to play Friday at 11 a.m. at Kentucky Wesleyan College and concludes the year Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) by visiting Bellarmine University.

The Screaming Eagles (4-10-1, 3-9-0 GLVC) hope to continue the momentum built by the 4-3 overtime victory over Christian Brothers University last Sunday. The victory over the Buccaneers broke a seven-match winless streak.

For the season, freshman Jeff McClure leads the squad in scoring with 14 points on a team-best six goals and two assists. Junior forward Simon Rawnsley follows McClure in the scoring column with nine points on three goals and three assists.

Rawnsley, junior midfielder Michael Simcock, and junior midfielder Justin Fox are tied for the team lead with three assists each.

The Panthers of the KWC (5-12-1, 2-10-1 GLVC) are finishing their season against the Eagles on Friday. KWC lost in its last outing, 2-0, to the University of Missouri-St. Louis on the road and have lost four of the last five.

USI leads the all-time series with KWC, 19-6-2, and has won the last seven meetings. The Eagles defeated the Panthers, 2-0, last year in the GLVC season opener at Strassweg Field.

The Knights of Bellarmine (9-4-1, 7-4-0 GLVC) still are in the hunt to host a first round match in the upcoming GLVC Tournament with three matches to play. Bellarmine was able to stay on pace last week with a win over Maryville University, 4-0, on the road after being rained out at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The Eagles lead the all-time series with Knights, 20-10-1, but the Bellarmine has won the last three. The Knights took last year's meeting in Louisville, Kentucky, 5-1.
