CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla.—The No. 18 University of Southern Indiana women's golf team had a rough start to the spring season as it finished ninth out of 10 teams at the Eastern Kentucky University El Diablo Intercollegiate Thursday and Friday.
USI showed improvement from the opening round to the closing round. The Screaming Eagles shot a final-round 339 Friday after opening the three-round tournament with a 347 and 343 on Thursday.
Sophomore
Jess Dooley (Goshen, Indiana) finished in a tie for 23rd in the 55-player field as she led the Eagles with a 248. After shooting 87 in the first round Thursday morning, Dooley came back in the afternoon to post a six-over 78 for USI's low round of the tournament. She finished with an 83 Friday.
Fellow classmate
Renee DeCaro (LaPorte, Indiana) had the Eagles' low round in the first 18 holes as she shot an 83 Thursday morning. She matched junior
Tara Wiley's (Oxford, Indiana) low round of 82 in the final 18 holes on Friday. Wiley finished the tournament in a tie for 34th with a 254, while DeCaro was 37th with a 256.
The Eagles return to action March 29-30 when they take part in the Northern Kentucky University Invitational in Perry Park, Kentucky.
