USI women's tennis bows out of GLVC Tournament in the semifinals

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team tied for third in the GLVC after going 1-1 in the GLVC Tournament Friday in Springfield, Missouri. The Screaming Eagles, who were the third seed from the GLVC's West Division, opened the tournament by defeating Bellarmine University, 5-1, but lost in the semifinals to Drury University, 5-0.

In their 5-1 opening match victory over Bellarmine, the Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches. Seniors Kim Decker (Brownsburg, Indiana) and Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) sealed the win with victories at number two and three singles, both winning in straight sets.

Bellarmine was the second seed from the East Division.

In the semifinals, USI was shutout, 5-0, by Drury University. Drury is the top seed from the West Division and hosted the tournament.

USI finishes the year 10-9 overall.
