INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team lost its season opener, 6-2, Friday afternoon at the University of Indianapolis. USI falls to both 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles picked up wins at number two doubles and number singles. USI senior Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana) and junior Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) defeated Indianapolis' Laura Phillips and Jeannie Hartley, 8-5, in number two doubles, while sophomore Maggie Coffman(Sellersburg, Indiana) won at number six singles in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) over the Greyhound's Allison Haener.
USI resumes the fall season and the GLVC schedule on the road at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville September 8. The Eagles first home match will not be until September 30 when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
