The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team clinched its first GLVC regular-season title since 2002 by blanking Quincy University, 9-0, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 5-0, Saturday. The Screaming Eagles finished their regular-season schedule with a 10-6 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in GLVC play.
Freshman Jarrod Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana) and junior Ryan Hughes (Kent, England) each picked up two wins in singles competition to lead the Eagles. Epkey (16-6, 6-0 GLVC) recorded straight-set victories at number two singles, while Hughes (14-10, 5-0 GLVC) recorded straight-set victories at number four singles.
Sophomore Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana) defeated Quincy's Scott Radecki at number one singles to improve to 22-5, 5-1 in GLVC competition, and 12-2 at number one singles.Â
USI, which went 6-0 in doubles play on Saturday, will compete in the GLVC Tournament April 15-16 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Eagles, the top seed in the tournament, will play the winner of the fourth seed and the fifth seed in the second round on Friday. Match times will be announced at a later date.
