USI men’s tennis falls to Austin Peavy

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.—The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team lost to Austin Peay State University, 4-3, Friday evening in its spring season-opener. The Screaming Eagles fall to 1-3 on the year with the loss, while the Governors improve to 1-4.

USI took number one doubles, 8-3, but lost in two and three doubles, 8-6 and 9-7, respectively, before opening up singles play.

The No. 6-ranked doubles team of sophomore Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana) and freshman Jarrod Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana) improved to 17-1 on the year with its victory.

USI won at number one, two, and three singles, but fell in four, five, and six.

Joe Epkey, ranked second in Division II in singles play, posted a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Ankur Singla at number one singles to improve to 14-3, while Jarrod Epkey posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jonathan Brown at number two singles to improve to 8-4. 

Senior Nim Shetty (Banglore, India) defeated Andrew Naidu 6-3, 6-3 at number three singles. Shetty improves to 9-5 in singles play this season.

USI will return to action February 26 to take on Grand Valley State University.
