EVANSVILLE, IN– The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to the University of Indianapolis Wednesday evening at the USI Tennis Courts. USI falls to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in the GLVC, while Indianapolis goes to 10-2 overall, 7-0 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles were behind 2-1 after doubles play. Sophomore Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman Sara Wilhoite (Connersville, Indiana) got USI on the scoreboard with an 8-3 victory at number one doubles.
In singles, the Greyhounds outlasted the Eagles at number five and six singles to earn the victory. USI junior Cassy Froderman (Brazil, Indiana) lost in a three-set tie-breaker (3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0) at number five, while freshman Maggie Coffman (Sellersburg, Indiana) lost in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-3) at number six singles.
Wilhoite and sophomore Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) picked up the USI victories in singles, both winning in straight sets.
The Eagles finish the GLVC schedule on the road this weekend, playing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday at 3 p.m. University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday at 9 a.m. and Quincy University at 2 p.m.
