The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team went 2-0 on Saturday to finish its fall dual-match schedule with an 8-2 overall record and a 7-2 GLVC mark.
The Screaming Eagles started Saturday morning at 9 a.m. by taking two of three doubles matches from University of Missouri-St. Louis to lead 2-1. Sophomore Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman Sara Wilhoite (Connersville, Indiana) won 8-1 at number one, while the Ackerman sisters (Allendale, Illinois) – senior Kalie and freshman Rielly – shut out their opponents at number three 8-0.
USI swept through the five singles matches that were completed for the 7-1 final. Wilhoite set the tone at number one, winning in straight sets and not giving up a game, while sophomore Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) and freshman Maggie Coffman (Sellersburg, Indiana) allowed their opponents one game in their straight set victories at number four and six respectively.
In the afternoon match, the Eagles swept all three doubles matches from Quincy University to propel them to a 9-0 victory.
Reilly Ackerman, Bartelt, Coffman, and junior Cassy Froderman (Brazil, Indiana) won their singles matches in straight sets to clinch the contest. Wilhoite and Rees also won at number one and two, respectively, with single pro set victories after the match was decided.
USI concludes the fall season in the GLVC Tournament October 8-9 at the Indianapolis Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Eagles will be the third seed of the six qualifying teams.
