USI women's tennis takes third at the GLVC Tournament
The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team took third at the GLVC Tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a 5-0 sweep of the third seeded University of Indianapolis at North Central High School. USI, the fourth seed in the tournament, finishes the fall season with an 8-4 overall record.
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play, while freshman Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) and junior Kalie Ackerman (Allendale, Illinois) completed the sweep with wins at number two and six singles.
Bartelt and sophomore number one player Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana) were named to the 2003 All-GLVC in a vote of the coaches. Rees, who earned All-GLVC honors for the second straight season, finished the fall with a 10-7 overall record and a 7-4 record at number one singles. Bartelt finishes her first collegiate fall season with an 11-3 overall mark, 9-2 at number two singles.
The pair also combined for a 10-7 overall doubles record, 8-4 at number one doubles.
