USI starts homestand with Alumni Weekend

Screaming Eagles hosts UTM, UE during homestand

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — University of Southern Indiana Baseball returns to the comforts of home this week when it starts a four-game homestand with an Ohio Valley Conference series against UT Martin at the USI Baseball Field. USI Baseball Alumni Weekend begins Friday at 6 p.m.; continues Saturday at 4 p.m.; and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. 

New for the USI-UTM game on Saturday, fans will be allowed to tailgate up to 15 minutes before the first pitch at 4 p.m. The tailgate location will be located down the left field line before Eicher Barn. USI's 2016 NCAA II Midwest Regional Championship team also will be honored prior to Saturday's game.

USI, 20-17 overall and 4-8 in the OVC, will conclude four-game homestand April 22 when it hosts the University of Evansville for a 6 p.m. contest.

USI Baseball Notes:
USI at Ball State Canceled.
The USI road trip finale at Ball State, scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to the forecast of rain in Muncie, Indiana. 

USI was 1-4 last week. The USI Screaming Eagles fell on tough times last week, going 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the OVC. USI started the week with a thrilling win over Bellarmine, followed by a disappointing loss at Butler and a sweep by Eastern Illinois. Junior infielder Collin Senior led the USI hitters with a .417 average last week, while senior shortstop Clayton Slack had a team-high six RBI in the five games.
 
USI struggling road trip. USI is 0-4 in the current road swing with one game to play. The Screaming Eagles, as a team, are batting .244 on the road trip and the hurlers have a 9.79 ERA in 30.1 innings.
 
USI in non-conference action. USI is 16-9 in non-conference action this spring. Senior shortstop Clayton Slack (34-90) and senior first baseman Patrick McLellan (37-98) lead the hitters with a .378 average and three home runs each. Slack and McLellan also led the batters with 30 and 29 RBI, respectively. Junior right-handers Trey O'Neil and Levin East lead USI on the mound with three victories each.
 
USI after four weeks in the OVC. The Screaming Eagles are 4-8 after four weeks in 2026 OVC action. Junior catcher Drue Saenz leads USI in OVC play with a .389 average, while senior catcher Micajah Wall has a team-high nine RBI in league play. Junior right-hander Levin East has two of USI's four wins out of the bullpen and a team-best 0.96 ERA.  
 
Hitting cools on the road. The USI hitters have been cool while on the road this season. The Screaming Eagles are hitting .281 (203-723) in the 21 road games, while batting .314 (155-494) in 15 games at home.
 
Pitching on the road vs. at home. USI hurlers are 7-14 on the road trip and have a 6.46 ERA. The staff is 12-3 at home with a 4.26 ERA.
 
Multi Games. Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan leads the Screaming Eagles with 14 multi-hit games this year. McLellan also leads the team with 11 multi-RBI contests. 
 
Doing it at the plate. USI is putting runs on the scoreboard at an incredible rate. USI is third in the OVC with 278 runs scored this season (7.5 per game). The Screaming Eagles also rank fifth in the OVC with a .294 team batting average.
 
Leaders. Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan leads USI and is second in the OVC with a .371 mark (53-143).
 
East leads in victories. Junior right-hander Levin East leads USI and ranks fourth in the OVC with five victories. He also ranks 51st nationally.
 
UTM in 2026. UT Martin is 18-17 overall and 5-7 in the OVC after two of three from Tennessee Tech last weekend. The Skyhawks host North Alabama Tuesday (April 14) before visiting USI this weekend.
 
USI vs. UTM.  The all-time series between USI and UTM is tied, 10-10, after the Skyhawks took two of three from the Screaming Eagles last year in Martin, Tennessee. The Skyhawks lead the series, 6-4, since USI made the move to the OVC in 2023.
 
UE in 2026. The Evansville Purple Aces, who are 13-20 overall this spring, visit Indiana University April 15 and Belmont University April 17-19 before coming to the USI Baseball Field next week. 
 
USI vs. UE. The Purple Aces lead the all-time series with USI, 36-22, after the teams split four games last year (two at USI; two at UE). The series is tied, 3-3, since USI moved to Division I.
