EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—Red-shirt freshman
Wylee Kippenbrock made his collegiate track and field debut Saturday with a strong performance in the 1,500 meters Saturday as University of Southern Indiana Men's Track & Field finished seventh at the SIUE Cougar Classic.
Kippenbrock, who has not raced on the track during his three-plus semesters at USI, finished second out of 47 competitors in the 1,500 meters with a time of three minutes, 54.50 seconds. His mark, which was just .34 seconds off the winning pace, is tied for 11th in the OVC and is the second-fastest 1,500-meter time by an OVC freshman this season—teammate
Kraedyn Young ran 3:49.54 at the WashU Distance Carnival last month.
USI finished the day with 39 points, eight of which came from Kippenbrock's finish. Junior
Isaac Stanford accounted for a team-high 11 points as he finished third in the 1,500 meters and fourth in the 800 meters.
Junior
Mukal Verma, who posted a PR in the 1,500 meters earlier in the day, added eight points with his second-place showing in the 3,000 meters. Sophomore
Zach Wells earned a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 meters, while junior
Eli Mojonnier and sophomore
Alan Marshall posted respective sixth-place finishes in the 800 and 1,500 meters.
Freshman
Brady Tremayne and junior
Gabe Land rounded out the Screaming Eagles' scoring performances. Tremayne was seventh in the 1,500 meters, while Land was eighth in the 800 meters.
The Screaming Eagles return to action Apri 16-18 when they compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.
