ST. LOUIS—Freshman
Kraedyn Young flirted with another freshman record Friday as University of Southern Indiana Men's Track & Field opened the 2026 outdoor season with more than 10 personal-best marks throughout three meets Thursday and Friday.
Young, who posted a pair of freshman records during the indoor season, came within a second of the Screaming Eagles' freshman mark in the 1,500 meters as he finished in 10th-place with a time of three minutes, 49.54 seconds at the WashU Distance Carnival Friday in St. Louis. His time ranks seventh all-time at USI and was just .74 seconds away from the freshman record of 3:48.80 that was set by Silas Winders in 2021.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles saw six competitors reach personal bests at the WashU Distance Carnival, with sophomore
Layden Wagoner posting a time of 3:54.43 in the 1,500 meters and senior
Dominick Beine carding a time of 14:31.31 in the 5,000 meters.
USI also has multiple student-athletes notch personal bests at the SLU Speed/Power Festival Friday in St. Louis. Juniors
Tyler Zimmerman and
Joe Schwartz scored for the Screaming Eagles in the 1,500 meters with placements of fourth and sixth, respectively, as USI finished 12th with 10 team points.
