EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2018 campaign, 6-3, against Division I opponent Austin Peay State University at the Evansville Tennis Center.
USI held a 2-1 lead after the doubles competition. The Screaming Eagles first win came when freshman
Alexander Lawrenz (Hamburg, Germany) and freshman
Spencer Blandford (Louisville, Kentucky) secured a win at number two doubles at 8-1. The second USI win came with the duo of junior
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) and junior
Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana), who were victorious with a 8-3 final at number three doubles.
The lone victor in the singles competition was at number two with Lawrenz taking a three-set 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2 tiebreaker) win for the third and final USI point of the evening. APSU swept through the remaining singles matches for the 6-3 final.
USI looks to rally February 16 at the Evansville Tennis Center where it welcomes William Jewell College for a non-conference match-up.
