QUINCY, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team completed a weekend sweep of two familiar opponents at the Quincy Racquet Club, defeating Quincy University, 8-1, and Truman State University, 9-0.
USI vs. TRUMAN STATE
On Saturday, the Eagles (3-0. 0-0 GLVC) started strong with a 9-0 decision over Truman State (0-6, 0-0 GLVC). In the doubles competition, freshman
Alexander Lawrenz (Hamburg, Germany) and junior
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) took their opponents, 8-0. Next was the duo of junior
Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana) and senior
Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) who won their match, 8-3, while freshman Martim Café (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and freshman
Spencer Blandford (Louisville, Kentucky) took the final win in the doubles competition, 8-0.
In the singles, Kiladejo won 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles with Lawrenz right behind with a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the number two singles. Karelin (6-1, 6-2), freshman Yahor Bahdahnovich (Misk, Belarus) (6-1, 6-2), Café (6-0, 6-0), and Dones (6-1, 6-1) helped complete the sweep for the Eagles.
USI vs. QUINCY
USI moved on to Quincy (0-2, 0-0 GLVC) on Sunday and recorded a strong 8-1 win, dominating the doubles competition to start. Lawrenz and Kerlin won at number two doubles, 8-2, while Blandford and Café clinched another, 8-2, at number three doubles. The number one doubles duo of Kiladejo and Dones rounded out the doubles wins with a 9-7 victory.
The Eagles captured five wins in the singles matches, first with sophomore
Kooper Falkenstein (Jeffersonville, Indiana) winning 6-2, 6-3 in the number six singles. Lawrenz (6-1, 6-0), Café (7-6, 5-7, 1-0), Karelin (6-0, 6-2), and Kiladejo (6-2, 6-3) rounded out the singles wins.
USI will be back in Evansville on Friday, February 9 at the Evansville Tennis Center where it takes on division I opponent Austin Peay at 11:00 a.m.
