EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 34
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team defeated Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Bellarmine Sunday afternoon, topping the Knights 8-1.
USI (16-7, 4-0 GLVC) took the first point of the match at number two doubles, where the duo of junior
Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) and senior
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) picked up an 8-4 win. Sophomores
Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana) and
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) also had an 8-4 win at number three before the Knights (6-14, 1-3 GLVC) took number one, 8-6.
The Screaming Eagles had a clean sweep in singles play. Freshman
Denis Davydov (Chorvatsky Grob, Slovakia) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three for the first singles point. Kiladejo followed with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win after moving up to number two, and sophomore
James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) had a 6-4, 6-4 win at number one.
Rounding out the scoring for USI was Barris with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number four, Karelin with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number five, and Dones with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six.
Up next the Eagles host No. 16 Indianapolis on Friday at 2 p.m. at the USI Tennis Courts. The Greyhounds and Eagles are currently tied atop the GLVC East Division at 4-0.
