O'FALLON, Ill. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis improved to 2-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday, defeating McKendree University 5-4 at the St. Clair Tennis Center in O'Fallon, Illinois.
After falling behind 1-0 in doubles play, the Screaming Eagles bounced back to take the final two matches. Senior
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) and junior
Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) tied the match with an 8-2 win at number two. The Eagles took the lead when sophomores
Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana) and
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) won 8-1 at number three.
In singles play, sophomore
James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) extended the lead, taking his match at number one, 6-2, 6-4. After McKendree got back within a point, freshman
Denis Davydov (Chorvatsky Grob, Slovakia) won at number two, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
Barris then sealed the victory for USI with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number four singles.
Next up for the Eagles is a matchup with Saint Joseph's College on April 7 at 3 p.m. in Rensselaer, Indiana.
