HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 34
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team bounced back with a 6-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night at Athletic Club Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama.
USI (8-5) took a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches. Sophomore
James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) and freshman
Denis Davydov (Chorvatsky Grob, Slovakia) picked up the win at number one 8-3. At number two, senior
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) and junior
Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) also won by a score of 8-3. The match at number three was a little closer, as sophomores
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) and
Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana) pulled out a 9-8 victory.
In singles play, Hardiman won easily at number one, 6-0, 6-1. Davydov also picked up a win at number two, going three sets for the 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) win. Karelin was the other winner in singles, grabbing a 6-3, 6-4 win at number five.
The Screaming Eagles will be at home for their next match when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the USI Tennis Courts.
