FLORENCE, SC- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team was defeated by Francis Marion University, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon in Florence, South Carolina. The Screaming Eagles move to 5-3 on the year while having their three match win streak snapped.
The Eagles were defeated in all three doubles matches, but the team of
Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) and
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) managed to push the Patriots to the brink before falling, 9-7. Moving to singles play, Joyce was able to pick up a hard fought win at number three. Joyce picked up a 6-3 win in the first set before dropping the next, 6-4. Joyce sealed the victory with a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker.
Samuel Kiladejo picked up the other win for USI at number two singles defeating his FMU opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
USI now gets some time off after competing in four matches in six days. The Eagles went 3-1 during the stretch and do not compete again until Saturday, March 19 when they travel to take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
