ST. LOUIS, Mo..- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 7-2, Monday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri. The 33
rd ranked Screaming Eagles move to 6-3 on the year in dual matches with the win in their first match in ten days over the seventh-ranked team in the Midwest Region.
USI took all three doubles matches highlighted by the senior duo of
Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) and
Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden) getting an 8-2 win at number two doubles. Moving to singles play, Joyce picked up a win at number three singles over UMSL's Alberto Maza Martin to earn the fifth Eagles' point and seal the victory for USI. Martin won the first set before Joyce rallied to take set number two, 6-4, and earn the win in the third-set 6-0. Sophomore
Anthony Van Rompay (Schilde, Belgium) was dominant in his match at number five singles earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory,
USI will return to action three more times this week competing in the Lewis Classic hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. On Thursday, the Eagles take on Wayne State University in an afternoon match at 1 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, USI will be competing in morning matches at 8 a.m. against Walsh University and Tiffin University.
