Allendale, MI.- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team was defeated by Grand Valley State University, 5-4, Sunday afternoon in Allendale, Michigan. The Screaming Eagles move to 2-2 on the year with their second defeat in as many days with the loss to the #46 team in the nation.
USI came away with a win at number one doubles in a long tiebreak.
Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) and
Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) were able to take the tiebreaker 14-12 to win the match 9-8.
Paul Forichon (Nimes, France) and
Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden) fell just short of forcing a tiebreak with an 8-6 loss at number three doubles.
At number three singles, freshman
James Hardiman (Blackwell Bristol, United Kingdom) came away with a 6-3, 6-1 victory to remain undefeated in singles play on the year with his fourth win.
Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) was able to pull out a 6-4, 6-3 win at number four singles dropping his first singles match this spring. The final win came from
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) at number 6 singles. Barris started the match with 6-2 win in the first set before falling in the second 5-7. Barris took the third set tiebreak 10-7 to get the win.
USI continues their 10 game road match stretch march 4-6 when they will take on Carson-Newman College, King University, and Limestone Colege.
