EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team defeated Austin Peay State University, 6-3, Saturday evening at the Evansville Tennis Center. The 32
nd ranked Eagles' move to 2-0 on the year in dual matches with wins in consecutive weekends.
USI freshman
James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) propelled the Eagles in their defeat of Division I APSU. Hardiman teamed with
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) to pick up an 8-6 win at number three doubles. Late in the evening, Hardiman earned the match clinching victory for USI at number three singles. Hardiman dropped the first set to Austin Peay's Aleh Drobysh 6-7 (9-7) before taking the final two sets by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Two more Eagles picked up two wins in the match. Barris also picked up the a win in the final match of the evening at number four singles with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. Senior
Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) picked up wins at number two doubles with his partner
Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden) winning 8-1. At number five singles, Joyce picked up a 6-4,6-2 win for USI.
USI returns to action in two weeks with a road trip to Michigan. On Saturday, February 27, the team stops at 9 a.m. in Big Rapids to take on Ferris State University. On Sunday, February 28, the Lakers of Grand Valley State University will welcome the Eagles to Allendale, Michigan for an 8 a.m. start.
