Eagles fall in Midwest Region first round

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The No. 32 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team saw its NCAA II Tournament hopes come to a close Saturday as No. 31 Ferris State University defeated the Screaming Eagles, 5-2, to win the NCAA II Midwest Region #1 Tournament first round match and advance to the round of 32

After falling behind, 2-1, with losses at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the Eagles' looked to capitalize on strong singles play to even the score. USI was unable to do so and fell behind 3-1 after junior Jack Joyce fell in number one singles 4-3 by way of default.

The Eagles would respond with a win at No. 6 singles to cut the Bulldog advantage to 3-2. At number six, redshirt freshman Aaron Barris steamrolled his opponent in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-2.
Ferris State would attack right back, sealing the match, with straight-set victories at number two and three singles.

USI, which concludes the season with a 15-7 record, reached the NCAA II Tournament for the sixth straight season and the 12th time in program history this season. The Eagles featured two All-GLVC players in junior Jack Joyce and freshman Samuel Kiladejo on a squad that reached the semifinals of the GLVC tournament.
