RENSSELAER, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana Women's Tennis team earned its first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory with a 5-0 win over St. Joseph's College Friday morning in Rensselaer, Indiana.
The Screaming Eagles (11-7, 1-3 GLVC) opened the match with a sweep of doubles action. The tandem of junior Elizabeth Wilm and freshman Ashlee Hasson powered their way to a convincing 8-2 win at number one. Sophomore Kymberly Brannon and freshman Kelsey Shipman steamrolled to an 8-1 victory at number two doubles, while sophomore Miranda Camp and freshman Jennifer Mizikar earned an 8-3 victory at number three.
In singles play, the Eagles continued to overwhelm the Pumas. With a 3-0 lead, USI quickly ended the match with a pair of straight-set victories. Shipman captured her third-straight singles win with a 6-3, 6-0 conquest at number three, while Wilm paired her doubles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two.
USI returns to action Saturday with a noon match against McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois.
