EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana Men's and Women's Tennis teams welcome the University of Indianapolis and Lewis University this weekend in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches.
USI's women enter the weekend with a 9-5 record overall and look to earn their first conference victory after starting GLVC play last weekend with a loss to Bellarmine University. The Screaming Eagles have been led by freshman
Jennifer Mizikar, who has compiled a 6-2 singles record this spring, while pairing with sophomore
Kymberly Brannon to find victory in three of their last four doubles matches. Sophomore
Brenna Wu has also helped power the Eagles in doubles play, capturing four straight doubles matches and six of the last seven with a pair of freshmen partners
Ashlee Hasson and
Kelsey Shipman.
USI's men prepare to face two of the top teams in the GLVC and the Midwest region this weekend. Indianapolis enters the weekend ranked 24
th in the nation, just one spot ahead of USI. Lewis heads to Evansville with a 7-4 mark overall and a 1-0 GLVC record. The Flyer's boast the 17
th ranked singles player in the nation in senior Armand Levandi, who enters with a 9-2 singles record. The Eagles have amassed an 8-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the conference. Junior
Jack Joyce was named GLVC Men's Tennis player of the week on Monday and has posted a 10-2 record in number one singles competition this spring. Freshman
Roman Laga has matched Joyce's 10-2 mark competing at number four and five singles, while redshirt freshman
Aaron Barris boasts a three match winning-streak and an 8-4 record at a wide-variety of singles positions.
Due to inclement weather, the Eagles' matches with Indianapolis have been moved indoors to the Evansville Tennis Center on Friday at 2 p.m. After the duel with the Greyhounds, USI will face the Lewis Flyers at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Wesselman Tennis Center.
