CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.—The No. 28 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, a 5-2 setback to NCAA Division I foe Austin Peay State University.
After winning 2-of-3 in doubles play to earn a 1-0 lead, the Screaming Eagles suffered losses in 5-of-6 singles matches.
Freshman
Roman Laga (Baiersbronn, Germany) went 2-0 to lead the Eagles. Laga paired with junior
Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden) for an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles before earning a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
The Eagles' other victory came at No. 1 doubles, where junior
Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) paired with freshman
Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) for an 8-6 triumph.
USI 4-1 returns to action Friday at 6 p.m. when it travels to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on former Great Lakes Valley Conference member and NCAA Division I foe Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
