Joyce garners GLVC men’s tennis honor

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week in an announcement by the league office Tuesday.

Joyce went a combined 4-0 to lead the No. 28 Screaming Eagles to a pair of Midwest Region wins this past weekend. He was 2-0 in singles play, posting straight-set victories over Tiffin University's Luis Ludena and Walsh University's Pablo Cabezon.

He also paired with junior Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden) for a pair of 8-3 wins at No. 2 doubles. His efforts helped USI earn a 9-0 win over Tiffin and a 7-2 win over Walsh.

For the season, Joyce is a combined 17-3 overall, including 9-1 in singles play and 8-2 in doubles play. In dual action, Joyce is a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-1 in doubles competition.

Today's honor is the first GLVC Player of the Week award for Joyce and the first for a USI men's tennis player since Ben Boesing was recognized by the league on April 2, 2013.

USI (3-0) returns to action Friday at 5 p.m. when it visits NCAA Division I foe Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. The Eagles return home Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when they host Lindenwood University in a men's and women's doubleheader at the Evansville Tennis Center.
