EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team maintained its unblemished record with a 7-2 victory over Walsh University Sunday evening at the Evansville Tennis Center. USI rises to 3-0 overall while the Cavaliers fall to 5-2.
The Screaming Eagles opened competition with a pair of victories at number two and three doubles, but Walsh responded with an 8-3 triumph at number one doubles.
Freshman
Samuel Kiladejo and sophomore
Aaron Barris earned the win, 8-4, at number three doubles, while juniors
Jack Joyce and
Joel Stern were victorious
at number two doubles won, 8-3. Freshmen
Roman Laga and Anthony Rompay fell, 8-3, in number one doubles to round out doubles play.
In the singles competition, USI powered through for a 5-1 finish, earning straight-set wins at number one and number three through six singles. Joyce dominated his opponent for the second time in the weekend with a 6-0, 6-1 straight sets victory in number one singles. Joyce relinquished just three games against Midwest region competitors in two matches against Tiffin University and Walsh.
The Eagles hit the road Friday for a 5 p.m. match against Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee before returning home Saturday to face Lindenwood University at 5:30 p.m. at the Evansville Tennis Center.
