Men’s tennis picks up big regional win

ST. LOUIS—The No. 24 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team racked up a 5-3 Midwest Region victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis in a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon.

USI (15-6) gained a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Jack Joyce and senior Santiago Lopez teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Joel Stern and freshman Josh Walden posted an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles.

Joyce, Stern, and Walden each posted straight-set wins for the Screaming Eagles in singles action. Joyce earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles, while Stern won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4. Walden posted a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 5.

The Eagles return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when they host the University of Illinois Springfield for Senior Day at the USI Tennis Courts. USI will honor Lopez prior to the men's and women's doubleheader as part of the Senior Day festivities.
