ST. LOUIS—For the second time in 15 days, the No. 24 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team and McKendree University went toe-to-toe; and for the second time in 15 days, the Screaming Eagles prevailed with a 5-4 victory, this time to claim the third-place match in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship Tournament Sunday.

With the two teams even at four wins apiece, the Eagles turned to their lone senior, Santiago Lopez. Lopez, an All-GLVC honoree, came through with a 6-2, 7-5 win over McKendree's Aleix, Alvarez at No. 2 singles to clinch the win for USI.

Lopez's win at No. 2 singles capped off a come-from-behind victory for the Eagles, who trailed 2-1 after doubles play. Sophomore Jack Joyce earned a straight-set triumph at No. 1 singles; while freshmen Josh Walden and Dimitri Stocker each battled back from one-set deficits to post wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Walden and sophomore Joel Stern earned USI's lone doubles victory with an 8-4 score at No. 2. The Bearcats (19-6), ranked No. 8 in the NCAA II Midwest Region rankings, earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles before claiming victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.

USI (18-7), which was ranked fourth in the latest NCAA II Midwest Region rankings, learns its NCAA II Tournament fate when the selections are made April 29 at 7 p.m. (CDT) on www.ncaa.com.
