BOX SCORE: USI 9, UIS 0 EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 24
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team won its fifth-straight and ended the 2013-14 Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a 9-0 Senior Day victory over the University of Illinois Springfield Saturday morning at the USI Tennis Courts. USI rises to 16-6 overall and 5-1 in the GLVC, while Illinois Springfield ends the 2013-14 season 4-13 overall, 1-5 in the league.
The Screaming Eagles took control of the match quickly by winning all three of the doubles matches. Freshmen
Joe Bray and Dimitri Stoker led the way in doubles with an 8-3 win in the third spot.
Sophomore
Jack Joyce and freshman
Josh Walden followed with an 8-6 victory at number one doubles, while sophomore
Joel Stern and freshman
Josh Walden closed out the doubles sweep with a tie-breaker win 9-8 (7-5) at number two.
USI completed the victory with six-straight victories in singles. Freshman
Kyle Landrum led the way in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number six.
The Eagles begin post-season action next weekend in the GLVC Tournament April 18-20 in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. USI, which is the number two seed in the GLVC East, is slated to play Rockhurst University, the number three seed from the West, in the firt round.
