EVANSVILLE, Ind.---The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team picked up its first win in five matches, defeating regional opponent Ferris State University, 6-3, Saturday evening at the Evansville Tennis Center.
The visiting Bulldogs fall to 8-12 overall, while the Screaming Eagles improve to 3-5 on the season.
USI got out to a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of the doubles competition with sophomore
Elizabeth Wilm (Evansville, Indiana) and freshman
Brenna Wu (Evansville, Indiana) topping Ferris State's Ana Jan and Gabrielle Demchenko, 8-5, at number one doubles, while sophomore
Elizabeth Skinner (Paducah, Kentucky) and freshman
Miranda Camp (Terre Haute, Indiana) finished with an 8-4 decision at number three doubles. Seniors
Shannon Joyce (Crawfordsville, Indiana) and
Morgan Coquerille (Sellersburg, Indiana) fought for the win at number two doubles, eventually falling, 8-6.
In singles action, the Eagles swept Ferris State at number's three through six for the match win.
USI will head to St. Louis, Missouri to face University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday, March 8, for a 1 p.m. match.
