EVANSVILLE, Ind.–The 22nd-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team earned a pair of non-conference victories this weekend.
USI opened the weekend Friday with a 7-2 victory over Indiana University-Southeast. The Screaming Eagles swept all three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Freshmen Joe Bray (Christchurch, New Zealand) and Josh Walden (Auckland, New Zealand) ignited USI with a resounding 8-1 win at number one doubles.

Powering the Eagles in singles play was senior Santiago Lopez (Armenia, Columbia), who captured the victory at number two, 6-1, 6-2.
The Eagles hosted 37th-ranked Ferris State University in a Midwest region clash Saturday night. USI took an early 2-1 lead after doubles play only to have the Bulldogs storm back during singles competition. The Eagles secured the narrow 5-4 victory with wins from Lopez as well as sophomores Jack Joyce (Bournemouth, England) and Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden).

USI's weekend sweep improves the Eagles record to 8-1. Next on the docket for the Eagles are a string of 10 straight road matches, beginning with a non-conference tilt against the University of Missouri-St. Louis on March 8.
