SAVANNAH, Ga.—Senior Santiago Lopez highlighted a rough afternoon for the No. 22 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team, which fell to No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic State University, 9-0, Wednesday.

Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time in his three-year career at USI, Lopez battled the No. 9 player in the nation, Pedro Scocuglia, to three sets.

After falling, 6-2, in the opener, Lopez earned a 7-6 (7-4) win in the second frame to force a deciding third set. Scocuglia, however, prevailed in a super-set tie-breaker, 12-10, to turn back Lopez's upset bid.

As a team, USI (9-3) suffered setbacks at No. 1-3 doubles as it went into singles competition facing a 3-0 deficit. The Pirates (9-0) added to their win at No. 1 singles with straight-set victories at No. 2-6 singles.

USI faces its third straight Top 20 foe Thursday at 1 p.m. (CDT) when it travels to Saint Leo, Florida, to take on No. 8 Saint Leo University. The Eagles also play No. 46 New York Institute of Technology Friday morning in Saint Leo before traveling to St. Petersburg, Florida, later in the day to battle Eckerd College in their final match of their spring trip.
