Eagles take down Walsh University, 6-3

NORTH CANTON, Ohio--- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team opened its three-match road trip defeating Walsh University, 6-3, Thursday afternoon in North Canton, Ohio. USI rises to 3-0 overall while the Cavaliers fall to 6-2.
 
The Screaming Eagles dropped the number one doubles match, but posted victories in the final two, for a 2-1 lead heading into the singles competition.
 
Freshman Josh Walden and freshman Joe Bray fell, 8-4, at number one doubles, while sophomore Jack Joyce and sophomore Joel Stern at number two doubles won in a tiebreaker 9-8 (9-7). At number three doubles, freshman Dimitri Stoker and senior Santiago Lopez posted an 8-5 victory.
 
In the singles competition, USI powered through for a 4-2 finish, earning straight-set wins at number four and five singles, respectively.
 
The Eagles continue on the road Friday facing the University of Findlay at 1 p.m., followed by Tiffin University. USI returns home Saturday, February 22, for a 6 p.m. match against Austin Peay State University at the Evansville Tennis Center.
