USI wins sixth straight

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –
The 40th ranked University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team won for the sixth consecutive time Saturday afternoon when it defeated No. 36 Lewis University 6-3 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match.
 
The Screaming Eagles improve to 11-4 overall and remain perfect in the conference at 3-0. The Flyers, meanwhile, drop to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
 
USI took a quick advantage in doubles by winning two of the three points. Senior Ben Boesing and freshman Jack Joyce won their eight straight match with an 8-2 victory. Senior Rodrigo Flores and junior Santiago Lopez, meanwhile, have won five in a row after their 9-8 (7-2) win.
 
The Flyers won No. 1 and No. 3 singles, but did not take anymore points from the Eagles. Senor Juan Quiroz was a winner at the No. 2 slot with a 7-5, 7-5 win, while Boesing shutout his foe with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
 
At the No. 5 spot for USI, Joyce has won five straight after he retired John Richert of Lewis 6-3, 6-1. Flores also has a five-match winning streak as he grinded out a 6-1, 6-1 win.
 
The Eagles return to action Sunday when they play Saint Joseph's College at 2 p.m. in Rensselaer, Indiana.
