Eagles are headed to Surprise, Arizona

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – For the first time in school history, the 40th ranked and top seed University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Screaming Eagles defeated 36th ranked and fourth seed Ferris State University 5-0 Sunday afternoon in the Midwest Preliminary Region Round.
 
USI came out on fire in doubles, taking all three points. The No. 2 team of senior Ben Boesing and freshman Jack Joyce got back on track with an 8-4 win, while junior Santiago Lopez and senior Rodrigo Flores won for the 11th straight time at the No. 3 slot with a 8-3 victory.  
 
The Eagles then completed a doubles sweep at No. 1 when sophomore Michael Kuzaj and senior Juan Quiroz downed their foe 8-6.
 
The top three singles matches were all tight contests, but USI dominated the four and five spot.
 
Boesing won his 18th consecutive match when he defeated Razvan Mag of FSU 6-2, 6-1. Joyce also kept his opponent off balance as he won his 13th singles contest of the spring, downing his foe 6-1, 6-2.
 
The Eagles, who are now 17-4 on the season play the University of California, San Diego Wednesday May 8 at 11 a.m. (CDT)
