EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana junior second baseman A.J. Dokey (Howell, Michigan) and junior rightfielder Brad Wannemuehler (Evansville, Indiana) provided the offense as the Screaming Eagles swept a doubleheader from McKendree University, 6-2 and 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI goes to 28-15 overall and 17-14 in the GLVC, while McKendree sees its record fall to 18-21, 13-18 GLVC.

Wannemuehler drove in half of the Eagle runs as USI came back from a two-run deficit to defeat the Bearcats, 6-2. McKendree took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second before Wannemuehler tied the score with a two-run single in the bottom half of the inning.

The Eagles took the lead for good, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth when junior shortstop Matt Bowles (Mt. Washington, Kentucky) doubled in senior catcher Colton White (Springfield, Illinois). Wannemuehler sealed the victory with his third RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly that drove in Bowles.

USI would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to give it the final four-run cushion, 6-2. Dokey picked up his first RBI of the day with a single up the middle, while freshman first baseman Andrew Cope (Evansville, Indiana) drove in the final run of the game with a single to right field.

On the mound, junior right-hander David Toth (Danville, Indiana) threw a complete game to get his sixth victory of the season. Toth (6-3) allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and one walk, while striking out three in nine innings of work.

In the nightcap, it was Dokey's turn to provide the margin of victory in the 3-1 win. The junior second baseman gave USI a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a double down the left field line and sealed the victory with a two-run double to left center in the fifth.

Those three runs would be all that junior right-hander Brandon Shaw (Cuba, Illinois) would need to get his fifth victory of the year. Shaw (5-1) allowed one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out two in six-plus innings of work.

Senior left-hander Adam Carver (Arthur, Illinois) picked up his fourth save of the year by getting Shaw out of a bases-load, no-out jam in the seventh. Carver induced a double play and a ground out to finish the game and give USI the sweep.

The Eagles concluded the 2013 home schedule with Senior Day Sunday when they finish the four-game series with McKendree at 1 p.m. USI will honor its six seniors at 12:40 p.m., prior to Sunday first pitch.
