INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the sixth time in school history, the University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team has won the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship for the first since 2005.
 
The 40
th ranked Screaming Eagles defeated No. 20 Drury University 5-3 Saturday afternoon. USI moves to 16-4 on the season and have won 11 straight matches, while Drury goes to 17-3.
 
The Eagles won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as sophomore 
Michael Kuzaj and senior 
Juan Quiroz downed their opponent 8-4. Seniors 
Rodrigo Flores and 
Santiago Lopez were winners 9-7 to give USI a 2-1 lead.
 
Drury took a 3-2 advantage after downing USI at No. 1 and 2 singles. Kuzaj though won his first set 7-5, but fell 6-3, 6-4.
 
Lopez then evened the match after going to a third set as he won the second and third set 7-5, 6-3. Senior 
Ben Boesing won his 17th straight match, which was his school record-breaking 82
nd career victory.
 
Flores then gave the Eagles their biggest point of the day, as he downed Jandui Reyes 6-1, 6-1 to give USI the crown.
 
USI is now expected to be a host of the NCAA Division II Preliminary Round, which will be announced Tuesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. (CDT).
