EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Sophomore
Ben Wright tossed his fourth career complete game, which helped the University of Southern Indiana baseball team to an 8-2 victory over Drury University in the Dunn Hospitality Classic Friday evening in a non-conference tilt.
Wright was cruising early in the contest, as he did not allow Drury (5-2) to get a runner into scoring position through 5.1 innings. The Panthers scored their first run in the sixth on a one-out RBI single by Matt Borgschulte.
However, Wright regained focus and only allowed three hits and a run over the final three innings. For the game, the Newburgh, Indiana, scattered nine hits, gave up two runs, walked one and fanned five.
The Screaming Eagles (6-1), meanwhile, built a four run lead after the fifth inning on RBIs by junior
Brad Wannemuehler, freshman
Kyle Kempf, junior
A.J. Dokey and junior
Brent Weinzapfel.
In the seventh, USI received some help from the Drury defense as back-to-back fielding errors allowed three runs to cross the dish with two outs.
The Eagles got their final run on an eighth inning RBI double from senior
Colton White.
Next up for USI is a 3:30 p.m. contest against Drury Saturday. The Panthers play the University of Indianapolis at noon to begin the afternoon.
