MURRAY, Ky. –
The 37th ranked University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team was in a tough 3-0 hole after doubles were completed, but the Screaming Eagles won three of the six singles matches. However, it was not enough, as USI fell 6-3 to No. 11 Abilene Christian University. 
 
In No. 1 doubles, USI and ACU were tied at four, but the Wildcats took the next four games to hang on for an 8-4 win.  Senior Juan Quiroz and freshman Jack Joyce, who were playing at No. 2 doubles lost 8-3, while the No. 3 team of junior Santiago Lopez and freshman Joel Stern fell 8-1. 
 
Quiroz, who was playing at No. 2 singles won his match 6-1, 7-5 and his classmate Ben Boesing took No. 4 singles 6-4, 7-5.  The Eagles were also a winner No. 5 singles when Joyce defeated Alfredo Desiati 6-1, 6-1.
 
In No. 3 and 6 singles, USI had chances, but junior Santiago Lopez fell in three sets and senior Rodrigo Flores went to the max in the second set, but lost 6-1, 7-5.
 
“We came out flat and inconsistent in doubles,” said head coach Chris Crawford. “I couldn't be happier with the way things turned out in singles against the 11th ranked team in the country.”
 
Next up for the Eagles is in-state foe DePauw University, where USI and the Tigers will do battle February 20.
