EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The No. 32 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team edged No. 37 Lewis University, 5-4, in a key Great Lakes Valley Conference dual Friday at the USI Tennis Courts.

Junior Rodrigo Flores posted a straight-set victory at number six singles to clinch the win for the Screaming Eagles, who have posted wins over nationally-ranked teams in consecutive matches.

USI began the contest by winning two of three doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Flores and junior Ben Boesing combined for an 8-1 victory at number three doubles, while Senior Diego Gimenez and junior Juan Quiroz paired for an 8-5 triumph at number two doubles.

Boesing's straight-set victory at number three singles gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead, but losses at number one and two singles allowed the Flyers to pull into a 3-3 tie heading into the last round of singles play.

Freshman Michael Kuzaj's straight-set victory at number four singles gave USI a 4-3 advantage, while Flores's win at six singles clinched USI's sixth straight victory.

USI returns to action next Friday at 1 p.m. when it hosts NCAA Division I foe Western Kentucky University in a men's and women's doubleheader at the USI Tennis Courts.
