USI travels to UIndy this weekend

Schedule changed due to weather

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana baseball team hits the road for the final time in the 2012 regular season when it travels to the 24th-ranked University of Indianapolis for a four-game series Friday through Sunday.

The schedule for the four-game series has changed due to the possibility of rain. Friday's single-game has been converted to a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. (CDT) and Saturday's doubleheader has been moved to an 11 a.m. first pitch. Sunday is slated to be used as a rain date, beginning at 11 a.m., if necessary.

The Screaming Eagles (23-19, 13-15 GLVC) have won nine of their last 12 games and started this week with a 9-3 non-conference win over Oakland City University Tuesday night. The win over OCU finished a 15-game homestand that saw USI post a 9-6 mark.

USI is still in the hunt for a berth in the GLVC Tournament, but has a lot of ground to make up in the final two weekend and eight games of the regular season. The Eagles are tied with Saint Joseph's College, 2.5 games behind Bellarmine University.

Bellarmine, which travels to Lewis University this weekend, holds the tiebreaker with USI after taking three of four two weeks ago, while the Eagles play Saint Joseph's at the USI Baseball Field next weekend to end the regular season. (For more on the GLVC Standings, click on glvcsports.com.)

The Greyhounds of UIndy (31-11, 20-6 GLVC) took over first place in the GLVC East Division Tuesday night when they swept Northern Kentucky University. UIndy has won 10 of its last 12 games and three in a row.

USI trails UIndy in the all-time series, 44-37, but is 9-8 against the Greyhounds since 2007.
