EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team secured a spot in next weekend's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 7-2 victory over visiting Saint Joseph's College Saturday at the USI Tennis Courts.

USI (8-8, 3-2 GLVC) won 2-of-3 doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead going into singles play, where it took 5-of-6 matches to secure the victory.

Juniors Ellena Stumpf and Lindsey White got the Screaming Eagles started off on a positive note as the duo combined for an 8-3 victory at number one doubles, while sophomores Stephanie Smith and Morgan Coquerille matched that result at number two doubles to give USI a 2-0 advantage.

Coquerille's straight-set win at number two singles put the Eagles up 3-1, while Stumpf's 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win at number three singles lifted the Eagles into a 4-2 lead heading into the last three singles contests.

Junior Logan Ackerman rallied from a one-set deficit to post the match-clinching victory at number four singles, while sophomore Alyssa Hoover and senior Heather Lee each posted straight-set wins to put the exclamation mark on the Eagles' victory.

The Eagles conclude their regular-season GLVC slate Sunday at 10 a.m. when they host the University of Indianapolis at the USI Tennis Courts. USI finishes the regular-season Wednesday at 3 p.m. when it hosts the University of Evansville for Senior Day.
